Happy Love Day

BE MINE - CALL ME - LOVE U

Today is Valentine's Day! While some people absolutely dread this holiday, we are sharing some of our favorite fun facts about this LOVE filled holiday...Check them out below! Who knows, maybe you will find a new reason to celebrate.

Valentine's Fun Facts

St. Valentine

Perhaps the most ironic fact about Valentine's Day, is the fact that this day marks the anniversary of St. Valentine's execution on February 14 around the year 278A.D. Valentine was a holy priest in Rome in the days of Emperor Claudius II. Talk about romantic?

Letter's to Juliet

Every year, thousands of romantics send letters addressed to Verona, Italy, and send them to “Juliet,” the subject of the timeless romantic tragedy, “Romeo and Juliet.” The city of Verona marks the location of the Shakespearean tale. All of the letters received by the city are dutifully answered by a team of volunteers from the Juliet Club.

Conversation Hearts

This is the first time in 171 years that the famous Necco Conversation Candy Hearts will not be sold! Spangler Candy Co., the company that took over the rights to Necco's iconic brands, confirmed that the candy hearts will return in 2020. Valentine's Day just isn't the same without these cute candies...guess we will have to wait until next year!

Life is Like a Box of Chocolates

The Valentine’s Day tradition of giving a box of candy was started in the 19th century by Richard Cadbury, a scion of a British chocolate manufacturing family. He used the holiday as a new business opportunity, and now this is a beloved tradition we carry on every year!

Want Flowers? Pay the Price!

Every year in February, you may notice that the price of flowers, especially red roses, skyrockets literally overnight! Why is this so? Supply & demand. After Christmastime, the demand for red roses increases, yet growers simply to not have enough time or labor to produce more in time. An estimated 250 million roses are grown for Valentine's Day every year, and there are only 24 short hours to deliver them all!

The First Valentine

History’s first valentine was written in perhaps one of the most unromantic places imaginable: a prison! Charles, Duke of Orleans, wrote the love letter to his second wife at the age of 21 while captured at the Battle of Agincourt in the 15th century.

So whether you have a human valentine or a #FurryValentine we hope that you enjoy today with some hearts, candy, and lots of L-O-V-E!
